Older brother of Franz Funk. Legendary Bad Tölz player who represented West Germany, at that time a record 225 times (since broken), scoring 57 goals. Exceptionally good goal scorer who had 892 (508+384) career points in 791 games. Returned for a one-game comeback in January 2003, two months shy of his 56th birthday. Became an ice hockey coach later on. His son Lorenz Jr. also was a decent player, earning a ten-year stint in the DEL.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Frère aîné de Franz Funk, il est resté une légende à Bad Tölz et plus largement en Allemagne, puisqu'il a porté 225 fois le maillot de la RFA, un record national (battu depuis), inscrivant 57 buts internationaux. Sur le plan domestique, ce buteur exceptionnel engrangea 892 points (508+384) en 791 matches. A joué jusqu'en 1990, soit jusque ses 43 ans, et s'est même offert un retour en janvier 2003, le temps d'une partie, à 56 ans. Était entre-temps devenu entraîneur dans les petites divisions allemandes. Son fils Lorenz Junior a lui aussi connu une carrière correcte en DEL.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
