Started ice hockey at 7. Coach Boris Aleksandrov made him debut with Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk first team at 17.
Technical defenceman who has learnt Soviet-style hockey in Torpedo school and didn't develop a hitting style.
Average size (181 cm, 83 kg). Never avoided physical contact even though he won the most gentlemanly award in the KHL 2011.
Unspectacular defenceman who always knew his role on a team. He played more frequently in penalty killing than in the powerplay.
When he left Ust-Kamenogorsk to Nizhny Novgorod in 1999, his parents also moved to Russia (to Moscow).
He didn't play for Kazakhstan for five years so he wouldn't be considered as a foreigner in Russian leagues, but came back to national team when he signed for Barys in 2010. There he became the defensive insurance for offensive defenceman Kevin Dallman.
Gold medalist in the Asian Winter Games 1999 and 2011. Retired in 2015.

Il a commencé le hockey sur glace à 7 ans. L'entraîneur Boris Aleksandrov l'a fait débuter en équipe première du Torpedo Ust-Kamenogorsk à 17 ans.
Défenseur technique issu de la formation soviétique, il a peu développé les mises en échec, sans éviter le contact physique pour autant.
Taille moyenne (181 cm, 83 kg). Élu joueur le plus gentilhomme de KHL en 2010/2011.
Peu spectaculaire, il connaissait son rôle et était plus souvent aligné en infériorité qu'en supériorité numérique.
Quand il a quitté Ust-Kamenogorsk pour Nijni Novgorod début 1999, ses parents ont aussi déménagé en Russie, à Moscou.
Il a arrêté de jouer pour le Kazakhstan pendant quatre ans pour ne pas être considéré comme étranger dans les championnats russes, mais est revenu en équipe nationale quand il a signé au Barys en 2010. Il y est devenu l'assurance défensive du très offensif Kevin Dallman.
Médaillé d'or aux Jeux asiatiques d'hiver 1999 et 2011.
125 points (24+101) en 590 parties d'élite russe (Superliga/KHL) jusqu'à sa retraite en 2015.
