Growing up he liked the play of Pavel Bure but his favorite player was Eric Lindros.
High energy player with good work ethic. Tenacious and effective in supporting roles. Worked the boards like a terrier. Not flashy but smart on the ice. Solid two-way player.
Played bigger than his size. Moved the puck with authority. Very good team player. Could have played a more in-your-face style at the NHL level as his skating was only average at best. Not overly physical despite his playing style. Inconsistent at times. Could play all three forward positions.
Retired in 2012. Scored 777 (325+452) career points in 1140 games.

S'identifiait à Pavel Bure étant jeune, bien que son joueur favori fût Eric Lindros.
Joueur dynamique et sérieux, Calder ne renonçait jamais et, pour cela, excellait dans les rôles plus discrets. On le voyait ainsi souvent batailler le long des balustrades. Pas spectaculaire, bien sûr, mais intelligent et efficace sur toute la glace.
Parvenait à faire oublier son gabarit moyen. Bonne maîtrise du puck, dévoué à l'équipe, il aurait eu encore plus d'impact en NHL s'il avait disposé d'un meilleur patinage. Ainsi, et paradoxalement si l'on considère son style de jeu, il n'appuyait pas trop sur sa dimension physique. Pouvait jouer aux trois positions d'attaque mais manquait de régularité.
Prit sa retraite en 2012 après avoir inscrit 777 points (325+452) en 1140 rencontres.
294 points marqués (114+180) en 590 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
