Grew up in Ohsweken a village inside the reserve of Six Nations of the Grand River. His father, Cam Montour, is Native American of Mohawk descent.
In tribute to this, Brandon Montour has a tattoo on his left arm that consists of a headdress and feathers. Other tattoos includes the date 12-29-16, the day of his NHL debut and his mom’s birthday. Inside of his left arm he has a tattoo with the words, "Anything is possible if you believe."
Spent eight years going to school in Tilburg, Ontario. Won the Minto Cup, awarded to Canada’s top junior A lacrosse team.
In hockey he started out as a forward. Very mobile and strong skater.
Highly offensive defenseman and a natural point producer. Good at quarterbacking a power play thanks to a good point shot.
Seen as a high-risk, high-reward defenseman. Sometimes out of position due to taking risks. Only average in strength for a defenseman at the NHL level.
Got injured at the 2019 World Championships and had to leave the tournament.
His first son Kai was born during 2023 Stanley Cup final.

En hommage à ses origines, Brandon Montour possède un tatouage sur son bras gauche qui représente une coiffe et des plumes. Parmi ses autres tatouages la date 12-29-16, à la fois date de ses débuts en NHL et anniversaire de sa mère. Sur le bras gauche, l'inscription "Anything is possible if you believe"
Scolarisé pendant huit ans à Tilburg, dans l'Ontario. Vainqueur de la coupe Minto de meilleur équipe junior A de lacrosse au Canada.
Au hockey sur glace, il débuta en attaque. Patineur très mobile et très solide.
Défenseur très porté sur l'offensive, qui savait mener les jeux de puissance grâce à son bon lancer.
Considéré comme un défenseur à haut rendement et haut risque. Parfois hors de position du fait de sa prise de risques. Un peu juste en termes de force pour un défenseur du niveau NHL.
Blessé lors des championnats du monde 2019, il dut quitter le tournoi.
Son premier fils Kai nacquit durant la finale de Coupe Stanley 2023.
