Small player who began skating at the age of three. Formed a dangerous line with Detlef Radant and Frank Proske, called the "Mini-Troika".
Won ten league titles with SC Dynamo Berlin, a club he came to in 1977. A blood clot ended his playing career in 1996. Played sporadically in lower German recreation leagues at the turn of the millenium. Scored 265 points in 388 career league games.
Represented East Germany 184 times. Went on to coach in Germany.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

De petite taille (1,72m), il commence à patiner dès ses trois ans. Ce talent précoce, international dès sa vingtaine, forma pendant dix ans avec Frank Proske et Detlef Radant un trio si prolifique qu'on le surnomma "la mini-Troika".
Dix fois champion de RDA avec le Dynamo Berlin qui l'enrôla en 1977. Dut arrêter en 1996 en raison d'un risque d'embolie alors qu'il évoluait toujours au plus haut niveau (DEL avec Hanovre). 265 points en 388 matches de championnat malgré sa longévité car le championnat de RDA était très succinct (deux clubs). Il a fait quelques piges passé la quarantaine dans des ligues régionales allemandes, pour le loisir. 184 sélections pour l'Allemagne de l'Est. Devenu entraîneur.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
