Younger brother of Michael Holmqvist, a centre who became Swedish champion 1998 (with Färjestad) and Finnish champion 2000 and 2001 (with TPS).
Andreas was a big-framed (193 cm, 96 kg), right-shooting defenceman with a monster slapshot.
A dominant force on the powerplay. Good at organizing the game in the offensive zone but not as good defensively.
28 games with Tre Kronor. Debuted on September 1, 2005 vs Russia and scored his first goal one year later. World champion 2006.
197 points (54+143) in 429 Swedish Elitserien games with Linköping, Frölunda and Djurgården.
Player of the year in the DEL in the first of his three seasons with the Kölner Haie in 2012/13.
He lost four league finals, two in Sweden with Linköping (2007) and Djurgården (2010) and two in Germany (2013 and 2014).
