Small and fast player. Good at controling the puck and not afraid to do the unexpected move. Fine stickhandler and a decent playmaker. Average shot.
Nizivijs was a fixture on the Latvian national team for 20 years. He played his first game for the senior national team on November 29, 1993 vs Norway. In total, he scored 129 points (39+90) for Latvia in 227 games, which made him the third most productive player at the time of his retirement, only behind Leonids Tambijevs and Aleksandrs Kercs.
He announced his retirement as a player on July 18, 2014, and became an assistant coach for Dinamo Riga. Nizivijs continued to coach in Latvia later on (also head coach for HK Riga & HK Lido).

Ailier droitier petit et rapide (177 cm, 77 kg). Bon technicien et créateur de jeu, il contrôlait bien le palet et était capable de mouvements inattendus et peu conventionnels. Son tir était cependant moyen, ce qui a longtemps limité sa production offensive, mais il a continué à s'améliorer techniquement au cours de sa carrière, jusqu'à devenir capable d'inscrire des buts venus de nulle part.
Nizivijs a été un pilier de l'équipe de Lettonie pendant 20 ans. Il a débuté en équipe nationale le 29 novembre 1993 contre la Norvège. Au total, il a marqué 129 points (39+90) en 227 sélections, ce qui en faisait le troisième joueur le plus productive au moment de sa retraite, derrière Leonids Tambijevs et Aleksandrs Kercs.
Il a annoncé sa retraite de joueur le 18 juillet 2014 et est devenu assistant-coach du Dinamo Riga. Nizivijs a continué sa carrière en Lettonie comme entraîneur du HK Riga et du HK Lido).
