Nichushkin began playing ice hockey at the age of seven.
Player with a powerful skating stride and great size for an NHL winger. Plenty of skills and scoring upside. Ability to play on either wing. Heavy shot.
Tendency to rise to the occasion. As a youngster prone to turnovers and a bit careless when in possession of the puck.
Voted as the best KHL-rookie in 2013. NHL scouts had high hopes for him and he was drafted in the first round, 10th overall in the 2013 NHL draft.
He played three seasons in the NHL before returning back to Russia. After two years in the KHL, he made a comeback in the NHL.
He married Svetlana Gavrilyuk, a model and founder of a lingerie brand. The ceremony took place in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
In November 2021, World Anti-Doping Agency informed him that a abnormally high testosterone level was measured in a 2013 sample found in 2019 in Moscow Anti-Doping Lab (this lab was then accused to be the core of a Russian program to hide positive tests).
Stanley Cup champion with Colorado in 2022, scoring six points in the final.
In 2023/24 he was above one point per game for the first time in his career (42 points in 40 games) when he went into NHL Player Assistance program and ended his season mid-January.

Nichushkin a commencé à jouer le hockey à 7 ans.
Joueur au patinage puissant, avec un excellent gabarit pour un ailier de NHL (192 cm, 95 kg). Bien doté offensivement, il peut jouer sur cbaque aile et a un lancer lourd.
Il est capable de saisir l'occasion. Jeune, il perdait des palets et ne faisait pas assez attention quand il avait la possession.
Meilleur espoir de KHL en 2013, il suscitait beaucoup d'espoir chez les recruteurs de NHL et fut choisi au premier tour, en 10e position, de la draft 2013.
Il a joué trois saisons en NHL avant de rentrer en Russie. Après deux années en KHL, non sélectionné dans l'équipe olympique, il est retourné en NHL.
Il a épousé Svetlana Gavrilyuk, mannequin et fondatrice d'une marque de lingerie, lors d'une cérémonie à Dubrovnik sur la côte dalmate.
En novembre 2021, l'agence mondiale antidopage lui envoie un courrier pour lui demander de s'expliquer sur un échantillon datant de 2013 et présentant un taux de testostérone élevé. Il est issu d'un contrôle anti-dopage effectué en 2013, et a été retrouvé en 2019 au laboratoire de Moscou (alors accusé d'être au centre d'un programme russe de dissimulation des contrôles positifs).
Vainqueur de la Coupe Stanley avec l'Avalanche du Colorado en 2022 en marquant six points en finale.
En 2023/24 il était au-dessus d'un point par match pour la première fois de sa carrière (42 points en 40 parties) quand il a mis fin à sa saison mi-janvier pour rejoindre le programme d'assistance aux joueurs de la NHL.
