He was born in Camden Town, and brought up in north London. Educated at Harrow Technical College.
Began skating at the age of eleven and enrolled in the junior academy which then was run by legendary former NHL-goaltender Clint Benedict.
Always noted as a very fair player during his career with tremendous leadership abilities.
Also a strong advocate for British players in later years.
Volunteered to join the RAF in WW II, transferring to the Royal Engineers, rising to rank of Captain at the age of 21, being one of the Army’s youngest in this rank at the time.
Captained Great Britain in 1952, 1953 and 1961. Also coach and manager in 1953.
Scored around 500 career points in a little over 500 games. Retired in 1965.
Became BIHA vice-president and also spent a short time on the International Olympic Committee.
He went on to become a successful businessman, and was for 49 years the managing director of the Cornwall Garage Group, which at its height had 44 petrol filling stations in southern England.
Inducted into the British Hockey Hall of Fame.
Passed away in hospital in Miami on November 18, 2017. >He had been on a cruise and was taken ill at dinner, his wife and a son were with him. He was the last surviving member of the 1948 British Olympic team.

Volontaire pour enrôler la Royal Air Force durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, puis chez les ingénieurs royaux, un des plus jeunes à obtenir le grade de capitaine, à 21 ans.
Capitaine de la Grande Bretagne en 1952, 1953 et 1961. Également coach et manager en 1953.
Il a marqué près de 500 points en un peu plus de 500 matchs dans sa carrière. Retraité en 1965.
Devenu vice président de BIHA (la fédération britannique de hockey sur glace), il fit un bref passage au Comité international olympique.
Devenu un homme d'affaires à succès, directeur pendant 49 ans du Cornwall Garage Group, propriétaire à son apogée de 44 stations services dans le sud de l'Angleterre.
Intronisé au temple de la renommée du hockey britannique.
Mort dans un hôpital de Miami le 18 novembre 2017. Il faisait une croisière et est tombé malade lors d'un dîner avec sa femme et son fils. Il était alors le dernier survivant de la sélection olympique britannique de 1948.
