Born in East Berlin and learned to play hockey in the old East German system with Dynamo Berlin.
Decently-sized defenseman at 188cm (6’2”) and 99kg (220 lbs). Strong penalty killer.
Defensively oriented, a shutdown defenseman who seldom joined any attack.
Represented Germany 135 times, scoring 6 points (1+5).
He considered the 1998 Olympics as his career highlight.
He also enjoyed playing under coach Hans Zach who he thought was the best coach he had played for.
Retired in 2011 and then went on to coach in hockey. Assistant coach for the German junior national team.

Né à Berlin-est, il a appris le hockey sous l'ancien modèle est-allemand avec le Dynamo Berlin.
Un gabarit intéressant de 1,88m et 99kg. Défenseur défensif qui fermait le jeu et rejoignait rarement l'offensive. Agressif et physique, homme de confiance en infériorité numérique.
En 135 sélections avec l'Allemagne, il n'a marqué que 6 points (1+5).
Il considère les Jeux olympiques 1998 comme le point culminant de sa carrière.
Il a également adoré travailler sous la tutelle d'Hans Zach qu'il considérait comme le meilleur entraîneur qu'il ait eu.
Retraité en 2011, il est devenu entraîneur. Assistant coach de la sélection junior allemande.
