A native Italian speaker. Alfio Molina learned to skate from his father - a former goaltender for HC Lugano - at an early age on Lake Muzzano.
He started playing hockey at the age of eight, and immediately became a goaltender. Made his senior debut with HC Lugano as a 15-year old.
Top Swiss goaltender of his generation together with Gérald Rigolet.
Very athletic and acrobatic goaltender who could make some incredible saves.
Finished as runner-up in voting for the best goaltender at the 1972 World Championships behind Czechoslovakias Jiří Holeček.
Voted best goaltender at the 1974 Pool C World Championships.
Represented Switzerland 64 times. Played 23 years for HC Lugano.
Retired in 1987 after only have played sporadically the last two years due to a knee injury.
His number 1 jersey is retired by HC Lugano. Molina was briefly Lugano’s goaltending coach.
His son Gabriele represented Switzerland as a junior, he too was a goaltender.
Molina worked for the municipality of Lugano as a building designer.
In 2006 he had the honor to carry the Olympic torch on its way to Turin.

Il a commencé le hockey à huit ans, immédiatement dans les cages, et a débuté en senior à seulement 15 ans.
Le meilleur gardien suisse de sa génération avec Gérald Rigolet.
Gardien très athlétique et acrobatique, capable de réaliser des arrêts incroyables.
Il a terminé deuxième des votes du meilleur gardien des Mondiaux 1972 derrière le Tchécoslovaque Jiří Holeček.
Meilleur gardien des Mondiaux C de 1974.
Il compte 64 sélections avec la Suisse, et a joué 23 ans au HC Lugano.
Retraité en 1987 en ayant joué très peu les deux dernières années en raison d'une blessure au genou.
Son numéro 1 fut retiré par le HC Lugano. Molina fut brièvement entraîneur des gardiens pour le club.
Son fils Gabriele fut international suisse junior, lui aussi en tant que gardien.
Molina a travaillé pour la municipalité de Lugano au service des bâtiments de la commune.
En 2006 il fut honoré de porter la torche olympique en route pour Turin.
