Good-sized stay-at-home defenseman. Son of a journeyman joiner who grew up in the working-class area Springburn in North Glasgow.
He learnt to skate at 9 but didn't delve into ice hockey before he was 16. He compensated his late start by practicing all the night.
After his playing career he coached the Glasgow Dynamos.
A locomotive fitter by trade, he became a senior technical officer and then a railway works' manager.
Milne was also part of the Great Britain national team as a leader since 1971. He was the General manager of Great Britain in 1975/76 and 1980/81.
He had to resign as BIHA Vice-President in 1988 when he suffered a stroke. Died in a nursing home eleven years later.

Défenseur défensif de carrure costaude. Il a appris à patiner à 9 ans mais n'a pas commencé le hockey avant 16 ans. Il compensa ces débuts tardifs en s'entraînant toute la nuit.
Fils d'un menuisier payé à la journée, il a grandi dans le quartier ouvrier de Springburn au nord de Glasgow.
Après sa carrière il est devenu entraîneur des Dynamos de Glasgow.
À partir de 1971, en tant que membre du conseil de la fédération britannique (BIHA), il fut directeur général de la sélection britannique en 1975/76 et en 1980/81.
Il dut démissionner de son poste de vice-président de la BIHA en 1988 après avoir fait un AVC. Mort en maison de retraite onze ans plus tard.
