Born in International Falls, MN but raised in Hibbing, MN.
One of nine kids in the family (the first six were boys). He had four older brothers, three of them played ice hockey. In fact his entire family used to play hockey against each other when he was growing up.
His childhood hero growing up was Bobby Orr. He played football as a quarterback. He also played as a baseball infielder.
Recruited by the late Herb Brooks to attend University. Won a couple of national championships under his tutelage (1974, 1976).
His blend of size, athleticism and toughness made him an irrepressible force on the hockey rink.
Had a pretty good shot, and was strong down low and in front of the net. Retired in 1982.
Considered Bobby Clarke the toughest competitor that he ever played against, and Brian Sutter of those that he played with.
He was always interested in the stock market and worked for several years with E.F.Hutton in the mid 1980s.
Went on to live in Worcester County, N.Y., and worked as an NHL analyst for multiple television networks.

Né à International Falls, il a grandi à Hibbing, également dans le Minnesota.
Il y avait neuf enfants dans la famille (les six premiers furent des garçons). Sur ses quatre grands frères, trois jouaient au hockey. En fait toute la famille jouait au hockey ensemble dans son enfance.
Son héros d'enfance était Bobby Orr.
Il jouait au football en tant que quarterback, et au baseball au poste d'infielder.
Recruté par Herb Brooks à l'Université du Minnesota, il a gagné deux championnats nationaux sous sa tutelle (1974, 1976).
Son mélange de physique, de condition athlétique et de ténacité fit de lui une force irrépressible sur une patinoire.
Il possédait un bon lancer, et était solide tant devant sa cage que devant la cage adverse. Retraité en 1982.
Il considère Bobby Clarke comme l'adversaire le plus dur qu'il ait eu à affronter, et Brian Sutter comme le meilleur coéquipier qu'il ait eu.
Toujours intéressé par les marchés boursiers, il travailla plusieurs années pour E.F.Hutton au milieu des années 1980.
Il arriva ensuite à Worcester County, N.Y., et fut consultant NHL pour plusieurs chaines de télévision.
71 points (11+60) en 158 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
