Born and raised in Prostějov where he learned his ice hockey, just like the Jirotka and Gardavský brothers as well as Alois Cetkovský.
Saw his first ice hockey game in 1919, discovering it on his travels abroad with his father.
As a 15-year old he returned to Prostějov from one of his trips to Berlin with hockey sticks and pucks. This set off his career.
Transferred to SK Slavia Praha on December 1, 1933 and played several seasons there before returning to Prostějov.
After a one year layoff he came back to Prague and played for AC Sparta Praha.
In Sparta he was named the captain on November 10, 1938.
Michálek started out as a forward but shifted to defense later on in his career.
Represented Czechoslovakia 37 times (1 official goal).
He liked football, skiing and was an avid alpine climber. Also a good track and field athlete.

Né et a grandi à Prostějov où il a appris le hockey, comme les frères Jirotka et Gardavský, ou encore comme Alois Cetkovský.
Il a vu son premier match de hockey en 1919, découvrant ce sport à l'occasion des voyages à l'étranger de son père.
À 15 ans il est revenu à Prostějov de l'un de ses voyages à Berlin avec des crosses et des palets de hockey. Ce fut le début de sa carrière.
Il fut transféré au SK Slavia Prague le 1er décembre 1933 et y joua plusieurs saisons avant de retourner à Prostějov.
Après une saison il retourna à Prague et porta les couleurs de l'AC Sparta Prague.
Au Sparta il obtint le capitanat le 10 novembre 1938.
Michálek a débuté sa carrière comme attaquant avant de passer plus tard en défense.
37 sélections avec la Tchécoslovaquie (1 but officiellement).
Il aimait le football, le ski et était passionné d'alpinisme. Également très bon en athlétisme.
