Began skating and playing hockey at a very young age during WW II.
He remembered the air strike defense sirens and how his father came out running for him, grabbed him and then took shelter.
Not the most graceful skater around, but he worked hard in order to improve in all facets of the game.
He was tall and lanky, hence his nickname "Eiffel" as in the Eiffel tower.
Not afraid to join an offensive rush. Had good hockey sense and accurate passes.
Scored 86 goals and 205 points in 451 league games. Won five league titles with ZKL Brno.
Scored three goals for Czechoslovakia in 33 games.
After hanging up his skates he coached and worked as a sportswriter for a daily newspaper in Brno (he was originally a builder).
In later years it was revealed that he was worked as an agent for StB, the plainclothes secret (political) police dealing with any activity that could possibly be considered anti-state or western influence. His cover name was "Max".

Il a commencé le patinage et le hockey très jeune, durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
Il se souvient des sirènes d'attaques aériennes et de son père arrivant en courant pour l'attraper et l'emmener se cacher.
Pas le patineur le plus doué, mais il travaillait dur pour améliorer toutes ses compétences.
Il était grand et maigre, ce qui lui valut son surnom "Eiffel", en référence à la tour Eiffel.
Il ne craignait pas de rejoindre l'offensive. Il avait un bon sens du hockey et des passes précises.
Auteur de 86 buts et 205 points en 451 matchs de championnat. Cinq fois champion avec le ZKL Brno.
Il a marqué trois buts avec la Tchécoslovaquie en 33 matchs.
Après avoir raccroché ses patins, il fut entraîneur et journaliste sportif pour un quotidien de Brno (à l'origine il était maçon).
Plus tard, il fut révélé qu'il a travaillé comme agent du StB, la police (politique) secrète en civil qui traitait toute activité considérée comme anti-étatique, ou sujette à influence occidentale. Son nom de couverture était "Max".
