Player of Greek ancestry who helped Canada win a silver medal at the 1996 World Championships.
He impressed Don Murdoch, then the head scout for Tampa Bay Lightning so much that he was signed to an NHL-contract with Tampa.
He never played in the league though, and played three seasons in the AHL.
Finished his playing career in Europe, playing both in Germany and Great Britain.
Retired in 2005. Became a hockey coach. Assistant coach for Great Britain between 2008/09 and 2009/10.
In late September 2018, Matsos collapsed on the bench during a game against the Barrie Colts (OHL).
He took some time off to recover and was able to return to the bench.

Joueur d'origine grecque qui a aidé le Canada à remporter la médaille d'argent aux Mondiaux 1996.
Il a impressionné Don Murdoch, recruteur en chef du Lightning de Tampa Bay qui lui fit signer un contrat NHL. Il n'y joua jamais, mais passa trois ans en AHL.
Il termina sa carrière en Europe, jouant en Allemagne puis en Grande Bretagne.
Retraité en 2005, devenu entraîneur. Assistant-coach de la sélection britannique en 2009 et 2010.
Fin septembre 2018, Matsos s'est effondré sur le banc à l'occasion d'un match contre les Colts de Barrie (OHL).
Il prit quelques jours pour récupérer puis revint officier sur les bancs.
