He was born in Swift Current, but grew up on the family’s 1,600-acre farm near Aneroid, SK.
His first team was the Aneroid Cowboys in 1983. Mario Lemieux was his hockey hero growing up.
Excellent two-way forward blessed with great speed, often catching defenders off guard by blazing right by them.
Natural goal-scoring ability, highlighted by a deadly shot and good size. Defensively strong. Somewhat streaky on offense.
Inconsistent at times, sometimes lacking intensity. Not always taking full advantage of his size.
Could play at an advanced age due to his fine skating.
World champion 2003 and 2005. Olympic champion 2010 and 2014.
Retired in 2021 at 41 as the all-time NHL leader in games played, but never won the Stanley Cup.
First player to have his jersey number (#12) retired by the San José Sharks.
NHL totals: 1779-566-631-1197. All-time leader in regular season games with 1779.

Né à Swift Current, mais il a grandi dans la ferme familiale de 1600 hectares près d'Aneroid, également dans le Saskatchewan.
Sa première équipe fut les Cowboys d'Aneroid en 1983. Mario Lemieux était son idole de jeunesse.
Attaquant doté d'une grande vitesse, qui prenait souvent ses adversaires au dépourvu en accélérant au dernier moment.
Buteur naturel, notamment grâce à son gabarit et son lancer exceptionnel. Solide défensivement.
Inconstant dans sa production offensive, manquant parfois d'intensité et ne tirant pas toujours l'avantage de sa taille.
Il put jouer à un âge avancé grâce à la qualité de son patinage.
Champion du monde 2003 et 2005. Champion olympique 2010 et 2014.
Recordman de la NHL avec 1779 matches joués en saison régulière, il n'a jamais soulevé la Coupe Stanley même s'il a tenté sa chance en quittant San José pour Toronto (2017-2019) et Pittsburgh (2020), avant de revenir finir sa carrière en Californie en 2021, à 41 ans. Premier joueur à avoir son numéro (12) retiré par les Sharks de San José un an plus tard.
1197 points (566+631) en 1779 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
