Hardnosed defenseman who had an uncompromising style. Not very big but solidly built.
World class bodychecker who covered up very well for his defensive partners.
Layed out many thundering hits and opposing players had to be aware of him at all times.
Scored more than 230 points (108 goals) in 481 league games.
Stalwart on defense for the national team, playing 293 games (37 goals).
Always paired on the right side with František Pospisil.
Was a World Championship All-Star on defense in 1972 when he won the gold medal.
In his last WC appearance paired with Miroslav Dvořák.
Carried the Czechoslovakian flag at the opening ceremony of the 1976 Winter Olympics.
Drew interest from Vancouver in 1978.
He considered Milan Nový to be one of the toughest forwards that he played against.
Finished by playing in Germany, racking up 146 points in 184 games. Retired in 1982.
Left ice hockey and started his own company in the food industry.
Died after a lengthy illness.
Inducted into the Czech and IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.

Défenseur musclé au style de jeu sans compromis. Pas très grand mais solidement charpenté. De classe mondiale au marquage, il couvrait à merveille ses partenaires défensifs.
Il était capable de véritables coups de tonnerre, les joueurs adverses devaient conserver un oeil sur lui à chaque instant.
Auteur de plus de 230 points (108 buts) en 481 parties de championnat.
Un pilier de la défense en sélection, appelé 293 fois (37 buts). Toujours aligné à droite de František Pospisil.
Fut défenseur étoile des Mondiaux de 1972 où il remporta l'or.
Sa dernière apparition au Mondial fut aux côtés de Miroslav Dvořák.
Porte drapeau de la Tchéchoslovaquie lors de la cérémonie d'ouverture des Jeux d'hiver de 1976.
Il suscita l'intérêt de Vancouver en 1978.
Il considérait Milan Nový comme l'un des attaquants les plus durs qu'il ait eu à affronter.
Il termina sa carrière en Allemagne, cumulant 146 points en 184 matchs. Retraité en 1982.
Il quitta le hockey pour ouvrir sa société dans l'industrie alimentaire.
Décédé des suites d'une longue maladie.
Intronisé aux Halls of Fame de l'IIHF et du hockey tchèque.
