Born at the RCAF Station Grostenquin, France to Canadian parents while his father was serving with the Canadian Armed Forces.
Maclean moved to Canada at the age of two.
Raised in Alberta, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
Player with a good shot and nice touch around the net.
He was good along the boards and corners, often digging out pucks.
He could also play physical if needed and his style drew comparisons to Ken Hodge Sr.
Considered playing in the 1980 Olympics being his biggest thrill.
At one time he held the NHL-record for most overtime goals in a season (3 in 1983/84).
Retired in 1991. Went on to work as an NHL scout and ice hockey coach.

Né sur la base de l'armée de l'air canadienne à Grostenquin, en Moselle, de parents canadiens, Maclean est arrivé au Canada à 2 ans.
Il a grandi dans l'Alberta, le Nouveau-Brunswick puis la Nouvelle-Écosse.
Joueur avec un bon lancer et une excellente touche du palet à proximité de la cage.
Bon dans les coins et contre la bande, il délivrait des charges efficaces.
Son jeu pouvait être physique si nécessaire, et son style s'apparentait à celui de Ken Hodge Sr.
Le meilleur moment de sa carrière fut les Jeux Olympiques de 1980.
Il tint un temps un record NHL du plus grand nombre de buts en prolongations dans une saison (3 en 1983/84).
Retraité en 1991. Il travailla ensuite comme recruteur NHL et entraîneur de hockey.
673 points (324+349) en 719 parties de saison régulière dans la NHL.
