Born in Viipuri (Vyborg), a city located in the boundary zone between the East Slavic/Russian and Finnish worlds.
The city has changed hands several times in history, most recently in 1944 when the Soviet Union captured it from Finland during World War II.
Luostarinen started out by playing bandy as his birth city used to be a bandy stronghold.
Was a modern player of that time who combined both skills and strength very well.
His great size and physical strength was a welcomed addition to the national team.
Scored 164 points (98+66) in 166 league games. Represented Finland 93 times (15+10).
Retired in 1966. Went on to work as an ice hockey coach.
