Player with roots in Ireland. Highly touted as a junior. Had good size for a defenseman.
Often used on the powerplay and was also an excellent shot-blocker.
When needed he could play a gritty and physical style of play.
Suffered a career ending injury in 1981 when he broke several bones in his hand and had circulatory problems.
He tried to play early on in the 1981/82 season but only played a handful of games.
During the summer of 1982 he was told by Lloyd’s insurance in London that his hand problem may have been caused by a degenerative injury, and that it would disqualify him from disability benefits if he couldn’t continue.
Went on to coach in the NHL.

Joueur d'origine irlandaise. Très côté en junior. De bonne taille pour un défenseur.
Souvent utilisé en supériorité numérique, excellent pour bloquer les tirs.
Il pouvait devenir un joueur physique et hargneux quand le match le nécessitait.
Sa carrière s'acheva prématurément en 1981 quand il se cassa plusieurs os de la main et eut des problèmes de circulation.
Il essaya de rejouer au début de la saison 1981/82 mais ne put prendre part qu'à une poignée de rencontres.
Durant l'été 1982, les assurances Lloyd à Londres lui ont dit que sa blessure à la main pouvait être causée par une blessure dégénérative, et que s'il continuait à jouer il serait exclu des prestations d'invalidité.
Il devint entraîneur dans la NHL.
79 points (11+68) en 280 parties de saison régulière dans la NHL.
