Started playing hockey at the age of ten. Worked hard as a junior to earn his spots.
Regarded as one of the best allround players in Czechoslovakia during the 1980s.
Good skater with strong physique. He was in constant motion and worked all over the ice.
Gamewinning type of player. Liked to challenge defenders and often beat them with unexpected moves. Accurate shot.
Scored 285 goals in 589 league games, being the top scorer in 1982.
Represented Czechoslovakia 211 times (66 goals) and Slovakia one time.
At the 1984 Olympics he had a +13 rating and wasn’t on the ice for a single goal against.
Played alongside Wayne Gretzky for a short period while in Los Angeles.
Retired in 2003 and became a coach. Inducted into the Slovak Hockey Hall of Fame.
In 2012, when a ice rink opened in Čaňa, a village near Košice, he raised funds and rent ice to run a hockey academy there.

Il commença le hockey à dix ans, pour le Tatra Prešov. Il travaillait dur en junior pour gagner sa place.
Considéré comme l'un des joueurs tchécoslovaques les plus complets des années 1980.
Bon patineur, physiquement solide. Vrai travailleur, toujours en mouvement.
Un gagnant sur la glace. Il aimait défier les défenseurs et les passer par des mouvements inattendus. Lancer précis.
285 buts en 589 matchs de championnat, meilleur buteur en 1982.
211 sélections avec la Tchécoslovaquie (66 buts) et 1 avec la Slovaquie.
Durant les Jeux de 1984 son ratio était de +13, et il n'était sur la glace sur aucun but encaissé.
Il joua aux côtés de Wayne Gretzky durant une courte période à Los Angeles. 25 points (7+18) en 37 parties de NHL.
Viktor Tikhonov déclara un jour que le seul joueur tchécoslovaque qu'il sélectionnerait dans son équipe était Liba, un compliment qui a tant marqué l'intéressé qu'il a dit qu'il l'emporterait jusque dans sa tombe.
Retraité en 2003, devenu entraîneur. Intronisé au Hall of Fame du hockey slovaque.
Quand une patinoire a ouvert en 2012 à Čaňa, un village près de Košice, il a récolté des fonds pour louer la glace et y installer une école de hockey.
