Youngest of six children.
His American father Hal Ledyard [1931-73] was a professional quarterback in both the NFL and CFL, winning two Grey Cups in the CFL (Canadian equivalent to the Super Bowl).
Bobby Hull, Bobby Orr and Brad Park were players he looked up to when growing up.
He was never drafted in the NHL but went on to play more than 1000 games in the league.
A fine playmaking defenseman in early years, who developed into a steady and puck savvy player.
Enjoyed an 18-year NHL career. Went on to coach in hockey.
In 2016 he filed a class action lawsuit together with other former NHL’ers against the NHL for failing to protect its players against brain injuries.

En 2016 il porta une action en justice contre la ligue, commune avec d'autres anciens joueurs de la NHL, pour manquement à la protection des joueurs par rapport aux risques cérébraux.
