Lederer, Ulrich

Position : LW/RW

18-05-1897 Opava, BOH (AUT-HUN)
xx-06-1969 Vienna, AUT

Sharpshooter who was one of Europe’s most feared goalscorers in the 1920s.
His hard and heavy shot was discussed as something players should watch and learn from.
Not a particular fast skater but compensated that flaw with an uncanny ability to position himself for good scoring positions.
Sometimes tried to do too much himself, not always using his linemates optimally.
Shrewd tactician on the ice. Good allround athlete. Very good high jumper.
One of Austria’s best at 200 and 400m (Track and Field). Also great at football and played on the first team of Slovan at the age of 14. Also a very good tennis player and wrestler.
Was a Czechoslovakian citizen and served in the Czechoslovakian army in 1925.
In 1926 at the European Championships the Czechoslovakian team filed a protest to the LIHG, saying that he should be ineligible to play for Austria because of his Czechoslovakian citizenship and previous military duty.
Had officially retired from the national team when he was called upon as a last minute replacement at the 1931 World Championships for Hans Ertl.
Represented Austria 41 times. Coached the Italian national team in 1934.
Also coached the Italian teams HC Bolzano 1933/34 and HC Cortina 1934/35.
Signed a three month contract with the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation in November 1935 to coach the National team.
Also played a few games there for Dragos Voda. Was an international hockey referee.
Buried at Stammersdorf-Zentral in Vienna.
August 18, 1897 is another birthdate for him.
