Arthur Lawson attended the Royal Military College between 1908-1911.
After that he studied in London, England for a while where he also played hockey.
He served in WW I with the Royal Canadian Engineers.
He was a Lieutenant Colonel (Signal Corps), Major (4th Canadian Divisional Signal Coy), Lieutenant and Captain (2nd Canadian Divisional Signal Company).
He was awarded the Military Cross in 1917.
In July 1918 he proceeded to England and took command of the Canadian Engineer Reserve Battalion for which he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
He lived in Montreal after the war for many years. Eventually moved back to Nova Scotia.

Arthur Lawson était apprenti à l'école militaire royale entre 1908 et 1911.
Après cela il étudia à Londres, en Angleterre, où il pratiqua également le hockey.
Il servit durant la Première guerre mondiale avec le génie militaire royal canadien.
Il fut lieutenant-colonel, major, lieutenant et capitaine.
Il fut décoré de la croix militaire en 1917.
En juillet 1918 il se rendit en Angleterre et prit le commandement du bataillon de réserve du génie canadien, pour lequel il fut promu au grade de lieutenant-colonel.
Après la guerre il vécut à Montréal durant de nombreuses années. Puis il déménagea en Nouvelle-Écosse.
