Canadian who came to Briançon, France in 1984 and quickly established himself as one of the top players in the league.
At first Laporte intended to come for a short time, and discover Europe by motorbike. Eventually he played more than a decade in France.
After coming to Rouen he managed to win five league titles with the club.
Got a French passport and represented the country 102 times (26 goals, 14 assists).
Retired in 1997. Became a hockey coach in France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and Hungary.
Also became part-time coach agent in 2018.

Canadien arrivé à Briançon en 1984 et qui s'y établit rapidement comme l'un des meilleurs joueurs du championnat de France.
Laporte envisageait initialement un séjour de courte durée, pour découvrir l'Europe à moto au passage.
Il joua finalement plus d'une décennie en France et remporta cinq titres de champion avec Rouen.
Il obtint un passeport français et fut sélectionné 102 fois en équipe de France (26 buts, 14 assists).
Retraité en 1997. Il devint entraîneur en France, en Suisse, en Italie, en Allemagne et en Hongrie.
Devenu aussi agent d'entraîneurs à temps partiel en 2018.
