Offensive defenseman with good passing skills and a quick release from the point. Smooth skater.
Always considered a positive influence on the ice and in the dressing room.
Had the ability to pinch in the offensive zone at any time.
Hobey Baker Trophy winner as the best university player in the United States in 1983/84 before entering the NHL for eleven seasons.
He was Chris Chelios roommate when he played with Montreal (1984-1986). Chelios told in his biography he had to put Born in the USA in the trashcan to make sure Kurvers would stop playing that Bruce Springsteen album all the time.
Retired in 1996 after having finished his playing career in Japan. Went on to work in the NHL for Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning and Minnesota Wild in various capacities.

Vainqueur du trophée Hobey Baker de meilleur joueur de la saison universitaire américaine 1983/84, il intègre ensuite la NHL pendant 11 ans.
Compagnon de chambre de Chris Chelios chez les Canadiens de Montréal (1984-1986). Chelios a raconté dans son autobiographie qu'il a dû jeter Born in the USA à la poubelle pour s'assurer que Kurvers arrête de passer cet album de Bruce Springsteen tout le temps.
Après une dernière saison au Japon en 1995/96, il prend sa retraite et entre dans l'encadrement de diverses franchises de NHL (Phoenix Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning, Minnesota Wild).
421 points marqués (93+328) en 659 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
