Was noted as a very good sportsman and a dangerous goalscorer in ice hockey. Key player on the Brandenburg team but also played for Berliner SC, although getting limited ice time there, but won a couple of titles. Was an international ice hockey referee later on.
Also an excellent field hockey player, and a two time German champion in that sport (1941 & 1942). Represented Germany 4 times in field hockey. In later years he turned his interest to equestrian sports. In 1953 he co-published the book 75 Jahre Berliner Trabrennsport (75 years of Berlin trotting).
He also kept himself in shape by playing oldtimers tennis rather successfully in the 1960s.
Inducted into the German Hockey Hall of Fame.

Sportif émérite, réputé en hockey pour être un buteur prolifique. Fut une vedette du SC Brandenburg avant de passer au Berliner SC, où il y obtiendra ses seuls titres de champion d'Allemagne sans jouer beaucoup toutefois.
Deux fois champion d'Allemagne également en hockey sur gazon (en 1941 et en 1942) et quatre fois international dans ce dernier sport. Une fois rangées les crosses, il consacra son énergie à l'équitation. Auteur en 1953 d'un livre sur l'histoire du trot berlinois (75 Jahre Berliner Trabrennsport).
Arbitre de hockey sur glace après la guerre, ainsi que joueur de tennis plutôt performant dans les catégories de vétérans.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey allemand.
