Very good skater. First came into the spotlight in 1929 as a 15-year old playing as a junior for SK Slavia Praha. That same season he went to AC Sparta Praha and then LTC Praha. He got a good schooling from a Canadian player in LTC, named Howie Grant. Was also a very competent football player and played league football for Viktoria Žižkov. Also a decent tennis player at one time. During summers he kept in shape by boxing and was a frequent visitor at boxing gyms.
The personal highlight of his career was the 1935 World Championship tournament in Davos, his most successful tournament from an individual standpoint. Between 1947 and 1950, Kučera functioned as a player coach for SC Bern. He emigrated to Australia in 1950. Continued playing there and became champion of Victoria, playing for the newly formed Melbourne Raiders in 1951. The following season he was a player coach in Hobart, Tasmania, playing for the Hobart Red Devils, Hobart Comets and Hobart Mustangs, scoring two goals per game.
Kučera returned to Switzerland and SC Bern in 1962. In 1963/64 he coached EHC Olten. On January 2, 1964, Kučera died in Gstaad of a heart attack during an oldtimers game.

Très bon patineur qui sort déjà du rang à 15 ans en tant que junior au Slavia Prague... qu'il quitte très vite pour le Sparta puis le LTC, où un Canadien, Howie Grant, le prend sous son aile et lui apprend les subtilités du jeu. Kučera jouait aussi au football (au Viktoria Žižkov), au tennis et s'entretenait durant l'été dans des clubs de boxe.
Connut le pic de sa carrière à 1935 aux Mondiaux de Davos, en Suisse. Il laissera des souvenirs dans la Confédération puisqu'entre 1947 et 1950, il occupera le poste d'entraîneur-joueur du SC Berne avant d'émigrer en Australie. Il y développe le hockey local et devient champion de l'Etat du Victoria en 1951 avec les Melbourne Raiders. On le retrouve ensuite en Tasmanie en tant qu'entraîneur-joueur de différents clubs de la capitale Hobart, les Red Devils, les Comets et les Mustangs. Même à l'approche de la quarantaine, il enquille les buts.
Kučera retrouve Berne en 1962, entraîne Olten en 1963 et décède subitement, le 2 janvier 1964, d'une attaque cardiaque lors d'un match vétérans à Gstaad. Il avait 49 ans.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey tchèque.
