Related to Adolf Bachura. Both he and Bachura went to Canada and played one year in Québec. He was an imposing player at 190cm (6'3") and commanded respect when he patrolled the blueline. Coming back from Canada he adopted the Canadian playing style combining it with his superior stick technique. Won a total of five Austrian league titles.
Top scorer in the Austrian league 1961 with 30 goals. He also represented Austria in field Hockey at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Played ice hockey until the age of 40. Went on to coach in hockey.

Possède un lien de parenté (mais lequel ?) avec Adolf Bachura. Les deux hommes passèrent ensemble un an au Québec pour y parfaire leur panoplie de hockeyeur. Knoll était un défenseur très grand pour son époque (1,90m) qui en imposait à la bleue, d'autant qu'il avait ramené du Canada un style rugueux parfaitement complémentaire de sa bonne technique.
Cinq fois champion d'Autriche et même meilleur buteur du championnat d'Autriche 1961 avec trente buts. Poursuivit sa carrière jusqu'à quarante ans et devint entraîneur en parallèle, à la fois en championnat d'Autriche (Villach, Klagenfurt) et des sélections autrichiennes de jeunes. Avait également représenté l'Autriche en hockey sur gazon à l'occasion des JO d'été 1952.
