Older brother of Douglas Kilburn. Another brother, Colin, was also a good hockey player. Born in Wilkie, SK, but moved to Edmonton, AB at an early age. He had two brothers and two sisters. Was described as a robust and solid blueliner.
He liked to dish out hits and always played with a competitive spirit. Was a linesman in the old Western Hockey League and the Alberta Junior Hockey League in the late 1950s and '60s. For a time he also coached the junior 'B' Edmonton Movers in the early 1970s, all while operating a highly successful dental lab.
Inducted into the Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame (as a member of the Edmonton Mercurys). Served in the Canadian Armed Forces, from 1942 to 1947. Passed away peacefully in his sleep.

Grand-frère de Douglas Kilburn. Un autre de ses frères, prénommé Colin, fut également un hockeyeur émérite. Contrairement à Douglas, Jimmie est né à Wilkie, dans le Saskatchewan, avant que sa famille ne rejoigne l'Alberta et Edmonton quand il était tout petit. Deux soeurs complétaient la fratrie.
Jimmie Kilburn était un défenseur solide, rude dans le corps-à-corps et ardent compétiteur. Fut amateur toute sa vie et tenait une clinique de soins dentaires mais il ne coupa jamais le lien avec la glace. Tout en jouant, il arbitrait dans l'ancienne Western Hockey League et l'Alberta Junior Hockey League. Puis il devint au début des années 1970 entraîneur des juniors des Edmonton Movers, poste qu'il n'occupa que brièvement.
Cet ancien soldat de l'armée canadienne (de 1942 à 1947) a été introduit au Hall of Fame des Sports de la province d'Alberta (en tant que joueur des Edmonton Mercurys) et au Hall of Fame du hockey canadien. Mort paisiblement dans son sommeil à l'âge de 85 ans.
