Phil Kessel

Kessel, Philip Joseph "Thrill"

Position : C/RW

02-10-1987 Madison, WI, USA

Youth team / club formateur : Madison Capitols

His sister Amanda represented USA on the women's team at the 2014 Winter Olympics. His father, Phil Kessel Sr, was a college quarterback at Northern Michigan University and was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the NFL. His older cousin, David Moss, also played in the NHL.
Began playing ice hockey at the age of seven under the tutelage of 1980 Olympic hero Bob Suter. Grew up admiring the play of Joe Sakic.
Outstanding breakaway speed. One of the quickest releases of any scorer in the game. Elusive player with great skating ability and a howitzer of a shot. Solid on face-offs. Subpar without the puck and not very defensively oriented.
A popular figure with an atypical frame (1,81m, 90 kg). Known for loving hot-dogs and sodas. Nevertheless he worked a lot in the training gym and was always in good shape.
Diagnosed with testicular cancer in 2006 and underwent surgery. Selected as the best forward at the 2014 Olympics. Also made the 2014 Olympic All-Star team. Won two consecutive Stanley Cup titles with Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
