10-07-1906 Glasgow, SCO
07-07-1945 Holten, HOL

One of four hockey playing brothers. His oldest brother John "Red" Kelly [1904-1936] played professional hockey in the PCHL and another brother, Pete Kelly [1913-2004] played in the NHL. Grew up in Winnipeg, Canada and learned to play his hockey there at the Seine River. Played hockey in Manitoba and Saskatchewan before moving with his family to Montreal.
There he played for the Montreal Royals before coming to Great Britain. Was the crowd favorite in 1938 and by many regarded to be the best player of the tournament. Exceptionally fine skater and a very elegant player. Known for his shifty, corkscrew skating style. His aggressiveness made up for his lack of size. Also known to play with a black cap on his head. He was quite a personality who was very popular among both the fans and players.
Served in the Royal Canadian Service Corps and was killed in an accident which occurred just before he was to go on two weeks‘ furlough which he was to spend with his wife and child in England. Sources have him being killed in WW II action, but that is incorrect.
