Regarded as one of the best goaltenders in Finland during the 1980s, winning the Urpo Ylönen award as Finland’s best goaltender on four occasions (1981, 82, 84, 87). One of the first goalies from Finland to play in the NHL.
Said himself that he learned and improved a lot as a netminder when he backed up veteran Glenn "Chico" Resch in New Jersey. Represented Finland 106 times. Retired in 1990. Went on to work in the insurance and financial sector for the Finlandia Group.
Inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.

Quatre fois couronné du prix Urpo Ylönen remis au meilleur gardien finlandais de l'année (1981, 19982, 1984, 1987). Fut un des premiers Finlandais du poste à tenter sa chance en NHL.
Il joua assez peu là-bas mais, dit-il, apprit énormément au contact de Glenn "Chico" Resch chez les New Jersey Devils. 106 sélections nationales jusqu'à sa retraite en 1990. Devint employé de Finlandia Group, courtier en assurances.
Introduit au Hall of Fame du hockey finlandais.
