Older brother of Al Johnson. Was a junior champion of Manitoba in 1947. Spent majority of his playing career in Winnipeg, but also played three seasons in England between 1951-54, being an All-Star in all three seasons. Retired in 1965 after the World Championships.

Frère d'Al Johnson. Champion junior du Manitoba en 1947, passera la grande majorité de sa carrière de joueur dans des clubs de Winnipeg, si on excepte trois saisons en Angleterre à Harringay. Sera d'ailleurs élu les trois fois dans l'équipe-type annuelle (1951/52, 1952/53, 1953/54). Arrête de jouer à 37 ans, après le Mondial 1965.
