Born in Colchester, England, to English parents. Grew up in Manitoba and was a Manitoba Rhodes Scholar. Educated at St.John’s College, Winnipeg and got a BA at University of Manitoba. Also studied at University of Toronto. He sailed to England in September 1924. There he studied in Oxford at Brasenose College between 1924 and 1927.
He captained the Oxford University ice hockey team against Cambridge University in 1927. Between 1927 and 1930 worked with Insce. Business & Survey. (Jurispr.3rd Cl. 1927. B.A. 1935, M.A. 1938).
Was a Law student 1930/31 and between 1931 and 1942 he practiced law in Winnipeg. Between 1942 and 1947 he was at the regional office, Wartime prices and Trade bd. in Winnipeg. From 1947 he had his own law practice in Vancouver, BC.
Passed away of colon cancer at St.Vincent's hospital in Vancouver, BC.

Né de parents anglais, à Colchester dans le comté d'Essex au nord de Londres. Émigré en famille vers le Manitoba pendant sa prime jeunesse, il fera ses études dans la province en tant que boursier de la Fondation Rhodes puis à l'Université de Toronto avant, en 1924, de retourner au Royaume-Uni tout juste âgé de 22 ans. Passera trois ans au Brasenose College d'Oxford. Sera à cette occasion le capitaine de l'équipe de hockey sur glace d'Oxford lors de ses fameux duels contre Cambridge.
Diplômé de droit des affaires, une formation qu'il complètera par un retour à l'université en 1931, il pratiquera ce métier d'abord au Royaume-Uni (entre 1927 et 1931), puis à Winnipeg (entre 1931 et 1947) avant d'ouvrir son propre cabinet à Vancouver, en Colombie-Britannique. C'est là qu'il mourra d'un cancer du côlon à 82 ans.
