Older brother of Drahoš Jirotka. Didn’t begin to play ice hockey until he was 15 years old. After a year he got promoted to SK Prostějov’s first team where he played as a defenseman. Graduated from school in 1933 and moved to Prague on the recommendation of legendary Karel Kozeluh. There he played ice hockey and worked as a clerk. Also played football in younger years, and later tennis. A good stickhandler with a superior peripheral vision.
Developed into a fine playmaker but was a fairly slow skater. Very smart and made good decisions on the ice. Formed a dangerous duo with his brother. Got the honour to carry the Czechoslovakian flague in the 1938 opening WC ceremony. Was also a very good tennis player who won some tournaments as a junior.
Enlisted into the Czechoslovakian army in England and just like his brother, he participated in the invasion of Normandie as well as the battle of Dunkerque. A graduate engineer who moved to Chicago and later retired in Florida. In Chicago he was the secretary for a group called the European Research Club, encouraging Eastern European expats to band together and fight communism.

Frère aîné de Drahoš Jirotka, il découvre le hockey à 15 ans. Un an après, il figurait déjà dans l'équipe première du SK Prostějov, au poste de défenseur. Une fois son enseignement secondaire achevé en 1933, il emménage à Prague sur les conseils de Karol Kozeluh, figure emblématique du hockey tchèque. Dans la capitale, ce très bon manieur de crosse au regard perçant joue bien sûr au hockey, se fait employé de bureau et pratiquera aussi, en différents moments de sa vie, le foot et le tennis (vainqueur de quelques tournois durant ses jeunes années).
Patineur assez lent, il se mue en passeur, exploitant ainsi son intelligence et sa clairvoyance. Le duo qu'il composait avec son frère était très réputé. D'ailleurs, comme lui, il eut l'occasion de porter le drapeau tchécoslovaque en ouverture d'un championnat du monde, en 1938 en l'occurrence.
Dans le sillage de Drahoš, il fit partie des bataillons tchécoslovaques combattant pour l'Angleterre lors de la Deuxième guerre mondiale, sur le front dunkerquois et sur les plages normandes. Ingénieur, là aussi comme son frère, il partit s'installer aux États-Unis pour fuir le communisme, à Chicago d'abord, où il fonda le "European Research Club" destiné à coaliser contre le communisme les exilés d'Europe de l'Est, puis se posa en Floride une fois sa retraite passée.
