Born three days before Latvia announced its independence. He first started skating at the age of five. Nephew of Māreks Jass. Very close to his cousin Māris Jass whom he grew up with, playing together since childhood.
Won several Latvian league titles and played in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Né trois jours avant l'indépendance de la Lettonie, il monte sur la glace pour la première fois à cinq ans en compagnie de son cousin Māris, dont il est très proche, et bénéficiera du mentorat de tonton Māreks.
Plusieurs fois champion de Lettonie, il a roulé sa bosse un peu partout, surtout en République tchèque et en Slovaquie.
