Younger brother of William Jarvis. Was instrumental in leading Brussels IHC to a Belgian league title in 1912, scoring four goals in the final. Came from a rather prominent family. His great-great grandfather was a United Empire Loyalist who came to Toronto with Governor Simcoe. His father, a bankman, financier and yachtsman was convicted in 1924 of conspiracy to defraud the Province of Ontario in the sale of duty-free Provincial bonds.
His father said that it was his proudest moment as he saved the government a lot of money. Junior himself was educated at Ridley College and worked as an investment broker and was the Vice-President of Aemilius Jarvis & Co, owned by his father. It was one of Canada’s leading investment banking houses. Also a captain of the Royal Canadian Dragoons, receiving the Military Cross and bar. In the honor of his fallen brother he named his first born son (b.1920) after him (William Dummer Powell). Passed away after an illness of several months.

Frère de William Jarvis. Artisan du titre de champion de Belgique remporté en 1912 par le Brussels IHC grâce à ses quatre buts en finale. Jarvis venait d'une famille influente. Son arrière-arrière grand-père, un défenseur de l'unité impériale britannique, prit pied à Toronto dans le sillage du gouverneur Simcoe. Le père de Jarvis, un financier féru de yachting, fut déclaré coupable en 1924 de faux et usage de faux pour avoir lésé la province d'Ontario dans une affaire de vente de bons du trésor défiscalisés.
Jarvis senior n'en tira aucune honte, au contraire, puisqu'il déclara avoir été immensément fier de permettre à sa province d'économiser des sous. Jarvis junior, lui, fut formé au Ridley College en tant que courtier avant d'être engagé dans cette fonction par l'entreprise paternelle, Aemilius Jarvis & co, une des plus grosses banques d'affaires du Canada.
Jarvis junior eut aussi une carrière militaire remarquée. Capitaine des Royal Canadian Dragoons, il reçut la Croix militaire. C'est en honneur de son frère William mort au combat pendant la Première Guerre mondiale qu'il nomma en 1920 son propre aîné William Dummer Powell. Aemilius mourut à 67 ans d'une longue maladie.
