Played his entire career in Ontario where he had a long and successful playing career that spanned over a quarter of a century.
Was the backup goaltender at the 1960 Olympics.
The only goaltender to wear a facemask at the 1962 World Championships.
Had a crouching style and liked to get down low, especially on screened shots.
He was once coached by the great Bill Durnan, who himself was a goalie, but never tried to change Hurley’s style.
Was an accountant by trade and turned down offers to play with the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs because he felt that his job was more secure than professional hockey.
He said that Hall of Famer George Armstrong was the player who gave him the most trouble because of his deceptive moves. Retired in 1972.
Worked at Bauer Industries Limited for 53 years, retiring as the Plant Manager.

Il joué toute sa carrière en Ontario où il a eu une longue carrière couronnée de succès pendant 25 ans.
Il fut le gardien remplaçant pendant les Jeux olympiques de 1960.
Seul gardien à porter un masque pendant les Mondiaux de 1962.
Il préférait s’accroupir et aimait se baisser très bas, surtout sur les tirs masqués.
Il fut un temps entraîné par Bill Durnan, lui-même gardien, mais qui n’essaya jamais de changer le style de Hurley.
Comptable, il refusa des offres des Red Wings de Détroit et des Maple Leafs de Toronto car il pensait son travail plus sécurisé que celui de hockeyeur professionnel.
Il déclara que le Hall of Famer George Armstrong était le joueur qui le mettait le plus en difficulté à cause de ses tirs trompeurs. Retraité en 1972.
Il a travaillé pour Bauer Industries Limited pendant 53 ans, prenant sa retraite en tant que directeur d’usine.
