Fought in WW II as a youngster. On August 24, 1944 he and four other French soldiers were surrounded by Germans in Athis-Mons. While taking cover behind a wall, more than 30 German soldiers made surprise attack. They forced Heylliard and his four comrades to face the wall with their arms in the air. Heylliard knew that they were going to be executed, so he managed to throw himself into the river Seine. The German soldiers fired shots after him, but he managed to narrowly escape death. Of the other four French soldiers, two were executed and two others were seriously wounded.

Il a combattu pendant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale dans sa jeunesse. Le 24 août 1944, avec quatre autres soldats français, ils furent encerclés par les Allemands à Athis-Mons. Cachés derrière un mur, une trentaine d'Allemands avaient fait une attaque surprise. Ils ont forcé Heylliard et ses camarades à faire face au mur les mains en l'air. Heylliard savait qu'ils allaient être exécutés et a donc plongé dans la Seine. Les Allemands lui ont tiré dessus, mais il a échappé de peu à la mort. Sur les quatre autres soldats français, deux ont été exécutés et deux gravement blessés.
