Masterful playmaker who had the ability to create scoring chances out of nothing.
Smart player with great hockey sense. Also nicknamed “Maestro”.
Represented Finland a world record 331 times, scoring 207 points (52+155).
Became the first ice hockey player to participate in six Olympic tournaments.
Retired in 2008 after having scored more than 1,200 points in over 1,500 career games.
Went on to become an ice hockey coach. His sweater was retired by Ilves Tampere and by Finnish national team.
Inducted into the Finnish and IIHF Hockey Hall of Fame.
