Born in Lucerne but grew up in Bern. Began playing hockey in Bern at the age of 13.
Was a key performer for many years on SC Bern, making his senior debut in 1930.
He was described as a tall, articulate and intelligent person. First a right winger then a center.
Formed a dangerous line on the club together with José Barrot/Hans Dallmeier and his older brother Daniel [1912-1935]. His brother was later killed in a plane accident while taking lessons to become a pilot.
Aside from Bern he also played for Servette HC (2 years) and Château d’Oex (2 years).
His career ended with a leg injury on January 4, 1946.
Otto Heller founded the „Daniel Heller Cup“, that became the unofficial senior hockey championship in Switzerland 1950.
Continued playing senior hockey in Zürich up until the 1960s.
Earned his law degree in 1941 from the University in Bern.
He was also an excellent tennis player and became the Swiss junior champion in Gstaad 1932.
Was in the military as a captain of the battery regiment 12.

Né à Lucerne, il a grandi à Berne et y a commencé le hockey sur glace à 13 ans.
C'était un joueur-clé du CP Berne, faisant ses débuts en équipe première en 1930. D'abord ailier droit puis centre.
Il a été décrit comme une personne de grande taille, intelligente et s'exprimant clairement.
Il formait une ligne dangereuse en club avec José Barrot ou Hans Dallmeier et son frère aîné Daniel [1912-1935]. Son frère est mort dans un accident d'avion en prenant des leçons de pilotage.
Outre Berne, il a aussi joué pour Servette HC (2 ans) et Château d’Oex (2 ans).
Sa carrière s'est achevée sur une blessure à la jambe le 4 janvier 1946.
Otto Heller a fondé la "Coupe Daniel Heller", devenu le championnat suisse non officiel des vétérans en 1950.
Il a continué à jouer avec les vétérans à Zürich jusque dans les années 1960.
Il a obtenu son diplôme de droit à l'université de Berne en 1941.
C'était aussi un excellent joueur de tennis, champion de Suisse junior à Gstaad en 1932.
Il était dans l'armée en tant que capitaine au 12e régiment d'artillerie.
