His father was a sport photographer and would take him to watch amateur sports, including ice hockey which captured his interest the most. Began playing ice hockey at the age of five.
Grew up idolizing the late Dušan Pašek.
Effective shutdown center who developed into a very good penalty killer.
Huge frame at 6-5 (196cm) and 215 lbs (97kg). Always taking pride in his defensive play. Also a capable playmaker.
Excellent on face-offs. Knack of scoring timely goals. Lack of speed hurt his game the most.
World champion 2002. Stanley Cup winner 2013. Slovak champion with his home team Banská Bystrica in 2017.
Handzuš resigned from Slovak federation council in September 2022 because he disagreed with the choice not to ban KHL players from national team during Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Son père était un photographe sportif qui l'emmenait voir des sports amateurs, y compris le hockey sur glace qui a le plus capté son intérêt. Il a commencé le hockey à 5 ans.
Il a grandi avec pour idole le regretté Dušan Pašek.
Centre efficace pour neutraliser l'adversaire, très bon en infériorité numérique.
Gabarit de colosse avec 196cm et 97kg. Il a toujours tiré fierté de son jeu défensif. Il a aussi des capacités de meneur de jeu.
Excellent aux mises au jeu. Il a le chic pour marquer des buts au bon moment. C'est le manque de vitesse qui handicape le plus son jeu.
Champion du monde 2002. Vainqueur de la Coupe Stanley 2013. Champion de Slovaquie avec son club formateur Banská Bystrica en 2017.
Handzuš a désigné du comité directeur de la fédération slovaque en septembre 2022 parce qu'il vivait un dilemme moral, étant en désaccord avec le choix majoritaire de ne pas bannir les joueurs de KHL de l'équipe nationale pendant que l'invasion russe en Ukraine.
