Talented defenseman who was drafted first overall in the NHL draft 1992.
His older brother Martin played only three games with national team but was chosen as Czech Extraliga best defenceman twice.
He grew up idolizing Ray Bourque (and was paired with him during NHL All-Star Game 1996).
Fine puck moving and mobile defenseman with a good hockey sense. Could play physical when needed.
Had torn ACL and MCL in his first game in World championships. Olympic champion 1998 in Nagano.
Avid heavy metal fan who attended concerts from Van Halen, Metallica ou Queensryche.
In April 2004 he gave up attending a Metallica concert in New York (contrary to Janne Niinimaa who watched it before joining Finland) to get to Czech Republic as soon as possible to prepare the World Championship in Prague.
His fondest memories according to him was to play for the Montreal Canadiens. Announced his retirement on October 21, 2013.

Son frère aîné Martin n'a connu que 3 sélections en équipe nationale mais a été élu deux fois meilleur défenseur d'Extraliga tchèque.
Il a grandi avec Ray Bourque comme idole (et sera apparié avec lui au Match des étoiles de NHL en 1996).
Défenseur mobile qui fait bien vivre le palet avec un bon sens du jeu. Il pouvait jouer physique quand c'était nécessaire.
Victime d'une déchirure des ligaments du genou à son premier match de championnat du monde. Champion olympique 1998 à Nagano.
Grand amateur de musique et particulièrement de heavy metal, qui assistait régulièrement aux concerts de Van Halen, Metallica ou Queensryche.
En avril 2004 il renonce à un concert de Metallica à New York (contrairement à Janne Niinimaa qui y assiste avant de rejoindre l'équipe finlandaise) pour rejoindre au plus tôt la sélection tchèque qui prépare les championnats du monde à Prague.
Son plus beau souvenir selon lui est d'avoir joué pour les Canadiens de Montréal. Il a annoncé sa retraite le 21 octobre 2013.
