Highly talented center with great playmaking abilities and on ice vision. Not afraid to play a physical brand of hockey.
Came from a sports family. His father Nisse Hagman was a former sprinter and vice president of the Finnish Athletics Federation. His sister Riitta Salin was a European champion and World record holder at 400 m. His son Niklas Hagman have also represented Finland and played in the NHL.
Also very talented track & field athlete who ran under 50 sec on 400m as a junior.
First Finnish-born-and-trained player to play in NHL (237-56-89-145).
Mentored a young Jari Kurri. Represented Finland 104 times (21+42).
Scored 56 points (25+31) in 53 WHA games and 806 (308+498) career points in 560 Finnish elite league games.
Four-time best scorer of Finnish league (1980, 1983, 1984, 1985).
Retired in 1992. Inducted into the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame.
Died after a few days in an Espoo hospital after a lengthy illness.

Centre hautement talentueux avec de grandes qualités de créativité et de vision du jeu. Il n'avait pas peur de jouer un hockey physique.
Il venait d'une famille de sportifs. Son père Nisse Hagman était un ancien sprinter et vice-président de la fédération finlandaise d'athlétisme. Sa soeur Riitta Salin fut championne d'Europe et détentrice du record du monde du 400m. Son fils Niklas Hagman a aussi représenté la Finlande et joué en NHL.
Lui-même était un athlète très doué qui courait le 400 mètres sous les 50 secondes en junior.
Premier Finlandais à jouer en NHL, il y a marqué 145 points (56+89) en 237 parties de saison régulière.
Il a été le mentor du jeune Jari Kurri à Edmonton. 104 sélections en équipe de Finlande (21+42).
56 points (25+31) en 53 matches de WHA and 806 (308+498) points en 560 matches en élite finlandaise.
Quatre fois meilleur marqueur du championnat finlandais (1980, 1983, 1984, 1985).
Retraité en 1992. Intronisé parmi les Lions du Temple de la renommée du hockey finlandais (Jääkiekkoleijona, numéro 98).
Mort d'une longue maladie après quelques jours dans un hôpital d'Espoo.
