Started playing ice hockey in his hometown at the local hockey school. Drafted late in the NHL by Columbus Blue Jackets in 2003 but decided to remain in Russia.
Defenseman with good offensive instincts. Not afraid to join the rushes. Good on powerplays.
One of the most successful defensemen offensively in the KHL. Announced his retirement on August 12, 2015.
Named (in 2020 during Covid-19 outbreak) KHL Vice president in charge of youth hockey, which made him MHL chairman.

Drafté tardivement en NHL à 27 ans par les Blue Jackets de Columbus en 2003, il décide de rester en Russie.
Ce défenseur offensif n'hésite jamais à apporter son écot aux offensives. Bon en avantage numérique.
Il fut à son poste un des meilleurs pointeurs de la KHL jusqu'à sa retraite annoncée le 12 août 2015.
Nommé (pendant la pandémie de Covid-19 en 2020) vice-président de la KHL en charge du hockey junior, donc directeur de la MHL.
