Tough and uncompromising defenseman who loved to dish out hits. Fine and hard shot from the point. Solid leadership skills and captained Vålerenga IF, winning ten league titles with the club. Nicknamed "Jern-Gustav" (Iron Gustav) for his playing style.
He was awarded Gullpucken as the best Norwegian player in 1960. First played for the Norwegian junior national team in 1954. A carpenter by trade.

Défenseur sans nuance, "Jern-Gustav" (Gustav-en-fer) n'hésitait pas à user du corps-à-corps. Disposait aussi d'un solide tir de la bleue. Un vrai leader, il a longtemps tenu le rôle de capitaine du Vålerenga IF et remporté 10 titres de champion avec le club de la capitale.
Reçut en 1960 le Gullpucken ou palet d'or, décerné au meilleur joueur norvégien de l'année. Eut une longue carrière internationale commencée en 1954 avec quelques sélections en équipe de Norvège junior. Charpentier dans le civil.
