When he joined CSKA hockey school from Khabarovsk, he was so much better and bigger than his teammates that some parents when to the Far East to find out his original birth certificate because they - wrongfully - thought it was forged.
First round draft pick by tthe Buffalo Sabres. Grigorenko made his NHL-debut as an 18-year old.
Gifted offensive center with great patience with the puck and accurate passer.
Very good shot. Excellent hockey IQ. Smooth skater but average starting speed.
Inconsistency and a disinterest on many nights were a drawback to his original career path in the NHL.
During Karjala Cup 2017 Znarok used him as a winger and afterwards he spent his career on the wing.
He married a Canadian woman and they got three children together. 2023 KHL playoff MVP.

Quand il a intégré l'école de hockey du CSKA en provenance de Khabarovsk, il était tellement au-dessus de ses coéquipiers en talent et en gabarit que des parents suspicieux ont fait le voyage jusqu'en Extrême-Orient pour retrouver son acte de naissance, qu'ils pensaient - à tort - falsifié.
Choisi par les Sabres de Buffalo au premier tour de la draft, Grigorenko a fait ses débuts en NHL à 18 ans.
C'était alors un centre très patient avec le palet, doué offensivement par ses passes précises, son patinage fluide et son très bon tir.
Très bon tir, grande intelligence de jeu. Patinage fluide mais vitesse de démarrage moyenne.
L'inconstance et un désintérêt manifesté certains soirs ont plombé la voie tracée pour lui en NHL.
Il a épousé une Canadienne, Amélie, et ils ont eu trois enfants ensemble.
Durant le tournoi Karjala 2017 Znarok l'a utilisé à l'aile et Grigorenko a ensuite fait carrière comme ailier.
64 points (22+42) en 217 parties de saison régulière de NHL. MVP des play-offs KHL 2023.
