Hardworking defenseman with good overall abilities. Fine shot from the point and useful on the powerplay. Good anticipation on the ice.
Showed a lot of toughness when in one NHL-game during the 2009/10 season he took a shot in the groin but continued to play following the blocked shot. He required emergency surgery on one of his testicles after the game, causing him to miss the remainder of the regular season.
World junior champion 2001 (Under 18), 2002 and 2003 (Under 20). Russian champion 2002 and 2003. World champion 2008 and 2009.

Défenseur complet et travailleur, bon tireur et précieux en jeu de puissance. Savait anticiper plutôt que réagir.
Également très courageux. Lors de la saison NHL 2009-2010, il prit un tir dans l'aine mais continua à jouer malgré la douleur et le danger. Il fallut l'opérer d'urgence après la rencontre, ce qui lui fit manquer la fin de la saison.
Champion du monde junior 2001 (moins de 18 ans), 2002 et 2003 (moins de 20 ans). Champion de Russie 2002 et 2003. Champion du monde 2008 et 2009.
85 points marqués (17+68) en 234 parties de saison régulière de NHL.
